Practical Features

  • Many relay modules with optocouplers are active low, meaning the relay is triggered when the input pin is pulled low .
  • Some modules include a jumper to enable or disable isolation. When the jumper is open, the optocoupler is powered separately, maintaining isolation between the control and load circuits .
  • Proper current limiting (e.g., using resistors) is required to prevent damage to the optocoupler or relay coil .

Applications

  • Microcontroller projects: Safely switching motors, lamps, or other high-power devices.
  • Sensor circuits: Preventing noise from affecting sensitive measurements.
